Cooled ThermoTherapy delivers precisely targeted microwave energy to heat and destroy enlarged prostate tissue, while a unique cooling system protects the surrounding healthy tissue. Energy is delivered through a microwave catheter that is inserted into the urethra and held in place with a location balloon, which inflates in the bladder. An antenna within the microwave catheter delivers a controlled dose of microwave energy. Simultaneously, cooled water is circulated through outer channels in the microwave catheter, protecting the urethra and maximizing long-lasting treatment results by making deeper heat penetration possible. Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes. Following Cooled ThermoTherapy treatment, a temporary urinary catheter may be left in place for a few days to drain urine during the healing process.
