Cooled ThermoTherapy (CTT) is a leading minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as enlarged prostate. CTT uses Urologix’ proprietary cooled microwave technology to destroy enlarged prostate tissue, relieving pressure on the urethra without harming surrounding urethral tissue. The treatment alleviates difficulties with urination and other BPH symptoms.
Cooled ThermoTherapy has been widely recognized as a minimally invasive, in-office treatment for BPH and is recommended by:
Cooled ThermoTherapy delivers precisely targeted microwave energy to heat and destroy enlarged prostate tissue, while a unique cooling system protects the surrounding healthy tissue.
Energy is delivered through a microwave catheter that is inserted into the urethra and held in place with a location balloon, which inflates in the bladder. An antenna within the microwave catheter delivers a controlled dose of microwave energy. Simultaneously, cooled water is circulated through outer channels in the microwave catheter, protecting the urethra and maximizing long-lasting treatment results by making deeper heat penetration possible. Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes.
Following Cooled ThermoTherapy treatment, a temporary urinary catheter may be left in place for a few days to drain urine during the healing process. Patients typically experience symptom relief in six to eight weeks.
